300 million children in the world suffer from hunger. In our opinion, this is simply unacceptable. Chippewa Valley Bean and all of the Doane family believes strongly in the efforts of many non-profit organizations to bring health, nutrition and education to those in the world who are underprivileged. We strongly believe that bringing health and education to all children is one of the most effective investments we can make in the future of the world. We do this by bringing awareness locally to schools, by organizing fund drives, and by contributing money to worthwhile organizations making a difference. Many of our growers are generous enough to contribute to this cause as well.

World Food Program (WFP)

WFP’s philosophy is “Into school, out of hunger.” When hunger strikes a community, children suffer most. Hunger drains them of their will and ability to learn. Over the years we have participated in WFP’s $0.19 a day school feeding program. This program provides a free meal to children so they attend school, get the education they so desperately need.

Catholic Relief Services (CRS)

Around the world, CRS food assisted development programs encourage over a million children to attend school by serving hot meals and providing food rations to the families of girls with high attendance. Depending on needs, these programs provide teacher training, curriculum development and PTA support to foster quality education.

Other organizations and causes we contribute to:

International Partnership for Human Development (IPHD)

IPHD reaches 500,000 children in Moldova, Guinea-Bissau, and the Congo Republic daily with school meals that include beans. These schools often lack the basic tools and supplies to efficiently use the commodities given to them through the Global Food for Education Program.

Joint Aid Management (JAM)

JAM serves needy people throughout Africa. JAM believes that without education there can be no development, and effective education is only attained through adequate nutrition. JAM currently assists more than 350,000 children through their nutritional feeding programs.

Food for the Poor

Food For The Poor is the number one international relief and development charity in the United States, feeding 2 million poor every day. Their Christian relief programs and projects are helping children and the poorest of the poor by providing food, housing, health care, education, water projects, emergency relief and micro-enterprise assistance in the Caribbean and Latin America.

Share-Guatemala

For over 20 years, Share-Guatemala has focused on the nutrition, health and education of those living in need in Guatemala. Right now SHARE is using dark red kidney beans in their school feeding program which reaches approximately 75,000 students and 2,500 teachers each year.
